Accelerating Business Action for Nature
How can businesses contribute to a nature-positive world?
Over the past 50 years, nature has rapidly declined, with wildlife populations dropping by 69% on average, threatening the over half of global GDP that depends on it. In response, the “nature-positive” movement is gaining momentum, aiming to halt and reverse this loss while building resilience for societies and economies.
Businesses and investors are stepping up. From agribusiness to energy and fashion, and from pension funds to insurance firms, leading companies are aligning their actions with environmental goals alongside net-zero targets—not only to mitigate risks but also to unlock opportunities and gain competitive advantages. At the same time, central banks, financial supervisors, and governments are recognising nature loss as a systemic risk and are introducing policies, regulations, and fiscal measures to address it. Yet, the path to operationalising 'nature-positive' goals remains unclear, with many struggling to understand their nature-related dependencies and risks or to integrate nature into their strategies and capital allocation.
How are leading businesses transforming operations and value chains to benefit nature and society while embedding “nature-positive” practices into decision-making, tracking progress, and scaling solutions? What are the emerging best practices, and how can they be accelerated? How can businesses collaborate with non-profits and governments to drive progress? What role do business schools play in cultivating a new generation of leaders to champion this change? How can companies integrate the values and perspectives of today’s youth into their long-term strategies for nature-positive innovation?
The Financial Times, in partnership with InTent, will bring together business leaders, financiers, thought leaders, government representatives, and non-governmental actors to explore how businesses can contribute to a nature-positive world—one that is more regenerative, restorative, and resilient—while harnessing the values, perspectives, and leadership of today’s youth to drive systemic change.
